Thank You, Danny!
Today marks Danny Dromm's final day as a member of the New York City Council. In 2009 a core group of us campaigned in the early summer mornings and late evenings to send Danny Dromm Queen's teacher & community organizer to City Hall. Besides being an instinctive activist Danny was our friend. For 12 years he has been an outspoken advocate for human rights, a pioneer on immigration reform, education, LGBT rights, and reform of the prison system as well as meeting the needs of the diverse communities of District 25 - Jackson Heights and Elmhurst and as chair of the LGBT and Irish caucus...
There will be another time to share many stories of the positive and inspiring teachers in City Hall. This week Irish Echo profiled his leadership (& our campaign) on legislation to divest NYC pension funds from nuclear weapons production and a committee to address related issues. His legislation was voted and passed on Dec 9th. A message of peace and hope from New York City as we bid farewell to 2021.! Many New Yorkers are reflecting and feeling a deep sense of gratitude for Danny Dromm. Tonight as we welcome 2022 we will be raising a glass in Danny's honor... grateful for his leadership in New York City Hall and especially his friendship. THANK YOU COUNCIL MEMBER DANNY DROMM!
